About Wayne:

"Wayne Richards was not just an ordinary social worker. He became a trusted friend and an extraordinary supporter of Pascale's Pals and all of the patients and families who came in contact with him."

Francis Wayne Richards was born September 8, 1942, to Francis and Marcella Richards. He was raised in Morris, IL, graduated from Kilroe College in Pennsylvania, and received his masters' degree in social work from the University of Chicago. Wayne spent his career in social work in a variety of settings. Among other positions, he was the Executive Director of Good Samaritan Boys Ranch near Springfield, MO, the administrator of two psychiatric hospitals, the Assistant Executive Director of Visiting Nurses Association in Columbia, and a medical social worker at the University of Missouri Hospital. In this last role, Wayne offered guidance and support to many cancer patients and their families dealing with this shocking new world that accompanied a cancer diagnosis. Wayne worked closely with these families and Pascale's Pals to identify and fulfill the specific needs of each child and their family members. He went beyond the job description, becoming a friend and support, a friendly face checking in to say hello and offering help wherever possible.
